Channellock,
Inc.
CHANNELLOCK,
INC. was founded in 1886 by George B. DeArment under the
name of Champion Bolt & Clipper Company. Originally
the product line was comprised of farrier's tools. In 1917
the company name was changed to Champion DeArment Tool Company.
In that year the company also added a line of pliers. In
1923 the company moved to its current location on South
Main Street in Meadville, Pennsylvania. In 1933, the Tongue
and Groove plier was developed. In 1964, the company name
was again changed, this time to Channellock, Inc., to provide
additional protection for the patented "Channellock"
pliers.
Channellock
remains in the DeArment family and continues to be the premier
brand in hand tool products. Today, the three Channellock
facilities in Meadville provide 240,000 square feet of manufacturing,
warehousing and office space. Channellock manufactures in
excess of 120 different sizes and types of pliers and hand
tool products, while employing approximately 550 associates.
Channellock has over 4,000 wholesale/retail customers in
the United States. Internationally, Channellock ships to
over 275 additional customers in 45 countries.
George
B. DeArment started the Champion bolt & Clipper Company
on four very basic principles: the belief that good management
is never far from the factory floor; that people are more
important than machines; that bigger doesn't always mean
better; and that dedication to excellence is the surest
way to surmount adversity and to prosper. For over 113 years,
Channellock has held firm to those four basic tenets.
